Ridley-Pryor joins Board of National Professional Advisory Committee of Epilepsy Alliance America

Tracee Ridley-Pryor, DNP, PMHNP-BC, joined the board of the National Professional Advisory Committee (NPAC) of Epilepsy Alliance America. The committee comprises epilepsy experts across a wide range of medical disciplines. The NPAC helps to lead and advise the Board of Directors on program policy and development and ensures that programs are based on sound, scientific and evidence-based data that considers the needs of people living with epilepsy and those who care for them. Ridley-Pryor serves as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at 天美传媒下载 Children’s Hospital. She also serves as director of Research Strategies and Collaboration in Pediatric Neurology, instructor of Psychiatry in the College of Medicine and assistant professor in the College of Nursing at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Arnold elected to the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society Board of Directors

Sandra Arnold, MD, MSc, FPIDS, was recently elected to the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society (PIDS) Board of Directors. She is a past chair of the Clinical Affairs Committee and will be chairing the committee to update the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) guidelines for the management of histoplasmosis. Arnold is the division chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and the medical co-director of Antimicrobial Stewardship at 天美传媒下载 Children’s Hospital. She is also a professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Talati named pediatric subspecialties fellowship office director

Ajay Talati, MD, MBA, chief of Neonatology, was named pediatric subspecialties fellowship office director at 天美传媒下载 Children’s Hospital and the University of Tennessee (UT) Health Science Center. He assumes the role from Michael Rebolledo, MD, MBA, MPH, who held the position for the past five years. In this role, Rebolledo led the effort to provide centralized resources for all 12 of the pediatric fellowship programs at 天美传媒下载 and UT Health Science Center. In addition to fostering community among fellows from various specialties, Rebolledo led the Pediatric Fellowship Office in hosting Research Week, monthly Noon conferences and the Research Grant Program to ensure fellows had the key resources needed for a successful fellowship and medical career. Rebolledo will continue his role as a pediatric cardiologist in 天美传媒下载’s Heart Institute. Talati will work closely with the Pediatric Residency Director Bindiya Bagga, MD, Interim Pediatrician- in-Chief Terri Finkel, MD, PhD, and the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office at UT Health Science Center, to continue building and recruitment for the excellent pediatric subspecialty programs at 天美传媒下载 and UT Health Science Center.

Comprehensive pediatric and neonatal critical care transport team unveils new ambulances

天美传媒下载’s pediatric and neonatal critical care transport team, known as Pedi-Flite, recently unveiled brand-new pediatric transport vehicles that serve as mobile critical care units. With the help of U.S. Congressman Steve Cohen, this state-of-the-art vehicle is equipped to deliver critical care to the region’s sickest children. The Pedi-Flite team is made up of pediatric and neonatal critical care nurses, pediatric and neonatal respiratory therapists and paramedics. All Pedi-Flite team members are trained in advanced life support techniques and hold additional credentials beyond those of their critical care peers.

Sebastian receives award from International Association of Forensic Nurses

Andrea Sebastian, DNP, PNP-PC, recently received the Kim Day Service Award from the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN). This award recognizes individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of volunteerism for the betterment of IAFN. The IAFN is a professional organization of more than 6,000 nurses from 25 countries who provide specialized health care for patients impacted by violence and trauma. Sebastian serves as a nurse practitioner in 天美传媒下载 Children’s Hospital’s CARES (Child Advocacy Resource and Evaluation Services) program and as an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Nursing.

Junior faculty receive CFRI Physician Scientist Grants

The Children’s Foundation Research Institute’s (CFRI) Early Career Physician Scientist Development Program supports clinical and basic research at 天美传媒下载 Children’s Hospital. This award provides as much as 20% salary support to allow protected time for research. The program prioritizes research proposals from junior faculty members, those less than five years out of training and interested in pursuing pediatric research.

The award recipients for 2025 are Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Specialist Nicolas Chiriboga-Salazar, MD, for his project “Standardizing Therapies and Improving Outcomes with Expanded Neuromonitoring for Patients on ECMO,” Neuroscientist Negar Noorizadeh, PhD, for her project “Optimizing Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery: A Comparison of sEEG and MEG in Predicting Post-Surgical Seizures” and Pediatric Neurologist Ashmitha Raja, MD, for her project “Feasibility of Measuring Neuroplasticity Using Novel TMS Paradigms in Hyperkinetic Movement.”

Heart Institute receives American College of Cardiology award

Edwards receives Oxnard Foundation grant

天美传媒下载 Gastroenterologist Price Edwards, MD, received a grant from the Oxnard Foundation for his project “Downstream Analysis of Upper Gastrointestinal Biopsies in Pediatric Patients.” Many disorders that cause pain and abnormal motor activity of the stomach are poorly understood. New technologies allow analysis of gastrointestinal samples to identify the genetic activity in individual cells of the tissue. Edwards will use these samples to compare different disease states to show how genetics and protein production may cause these disorders. Better understanding of these disorders will improve both diagnosis and treatment.

Cross honored with national award

Cynthia Cross, MD, FAAP, was recently honored for her trailblazing work in pediatric health by the Children’s Hospital Association in partnership with the Audrey’s Children Project. This honor recognizes women who have advanced pediatric health care and whose impact will extend far beyond their tenure. Cross serves as the chief of Community Health and Regional Services, medical director of 天美传媒下载 on the Move and an associate professor at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Noorizadeh receives junior investigator award from American Epilepsy Society

天美传媒下载 Neuroscientist Negar Noorizadeh, PhD, recently received a junior investigator award from the American Epilepsy Society (AES) for her project “Improving the Accuracy of TMS Language Localization Using Tractography.” Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is utilized as a non-invasive method of mapping language cortices prior to surgical resection for epilepsy or brain tumors but suffers from high false-positive rates. This project aims to improve the accuracy of TMS by integrating it with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) tractography, an MRI technique, to create a more reliable, individualized tool for presurgical planning.

Bearden receives grants through the Pediatric Epilepsy Research Consortium

天美传媒下载 Neuropsychologist and Chief of Pediatric Psychology and Behavioral Health Donald J. Bearden, PhD, recently received grants for two projects as a co-principal investigator from the Pediatric Epilepsy Research Consortium (PERC). The first, “A delphi consensus on best practices for identifying and treating early life epilepsy,” aims to develop consensus recommendations for standards of care for early life epilepsy patients three years or younger. The second, “From Assessment to Action: Optimizing neuropsychological and neurosurgical communication in epilepsy surgical planning,” will use a multi-site approach to develop streamlined communication recommendations between neuropsychologists and neurosurgeons/epileptologists for surgical planning.
