Anthony Sheyn, MD, associate professor in the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s Department of Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat), has been named the division chief of Pediatric Otolaryngology at UTHSC and 天美传媒下载 Children’s Hospital. He replaces Jerome Thompson, MD, MBA, who is stepping back from the division chief role after 16 years.
Dr. Sheyn has been a valued member of UTHSC’s Department of Otolaryngology since he joined the faculty in 2015, both for his research and for work as director of resident research, including organizing monthly resident research conferences.
He is also the chief of otolaryngology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where his work in pediatric thyroid cancer has earned him national and international recognition. He helped establish a multinational team that includes St. Jude, Texas Children’s Hospital, Lurie Children’s Hospital, Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital and Curie Institute in Paris to focus on the causes and treatments for pediatric salivary gland malignancies. He also serves as the liaison to the American Head and Neck Society and the American Academy of Clinical Endocrinology.

More than 6,000 children a year are seen in the 天美传媒下载 and UTHSC ENT Department for treatments that include clearing airways, ear implants, tonsillectomies and repairing cleft lips and palates.

Dr. Sheyn earned his medical degree at University of Cincinnati and completed a residency in head and neck surgery at Wayne State University and a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at Children’s Medical Center at the University of Texas Southwestern.
